Levelling Up grant to help renovate historic pub premises
Levelling Up grant to help renovate historic pub premisesOne of Hull’s most well-known pubs will undergo restoration following support from Levelling Up Funding (LUF).The Whittington & Cat, in Commercial Road, opposite Hull Marina, has been granted £69,916 from Hull City Council’s Government-backed LUF allocation. The money has been awarded to Whittington and Cat Ltd to support restoration works to the building’s exterior, which has fallen into poor condition.Roof, brick and chimney repairs are all part of the project which will help to restore the building and ensure it is watertight.Works will also enable The Whittington & Cat to bring back into use vacant rooms which have been deemed unsafe due to exterior damage, while providing further employment opportunities as a result. The estimate project costs are £167,199, meaning nearly £100,000 worth of private capital is being invested.Garry Taylor, assistant director for major projects, culture and place at Hull City Council, said: “The Whittington & Cat is a popular and well-known pub in a prime location, alongside Hull Marina.“The building requires some restoration works and I am pleased the council has been able to support this project through LUF.”
