Revised plans for a Leicestershire logistics hub which aims to provide more than one million sq ft of space and has the potential to create thousands of jobs have been approved. The site for the Enderby logistics hub is allocated in Blaby District Council’s adopted Local Plan for employment use.Blaby Council’s planning committee initially refused the development in October 2023. The Drummond Estate, a family trust, and partner Landchain then lodged an appeal.Revised proposals were then brought forward and considered on 13 June. The scheme will provide about 1.14 million sq ft of advanced warehouse and distribution space with integral offices. It is forecast that the project will create 2,479 jobs in total (1,811 direct jobs, 125 construction related and a further 543 potential indirect jobs). While “many elements of the application remain unchanged”, a proposed training centre has been omitted from this application and replaced by B2 (general industrial) units.A report drawn up for the planning committee said: “Overall, the three dimensions of sustainable development have been considered (economic, social and environmental) as set out in the NPPF and officers are of the view that the proposal is acceptable.”Members voted to approve the project, subject to conditions.
