A scheme of 128 affordable homes in North Wales has been approved by planners despite concerns.Cartrefi Developments Ltd wants to build the homes in Abergele at the former Interleisure site on Towyn Road, Pensarn.Despite concerns over flooding and NHS provision, Conwy Council’s planning committee unanimously supported the plans, in line with an officer’s report recommendation. They noted the mix of one- to five-bedroom homes and emphasized their eco-friendly design. The scheme would be brought forward by Cartrefi Conwy.Proposed is to provide one parking space for each of the one-bed properties, and two spaces for the two to five-bedroom homes. There would be a total of 17 visitor spaces provided at dedicated areas throughout the site. Also lined up would be open space and footway/cycleway links to Pensarn. The development would provide a new access to Towyn Road, including right turn lane, and takes account of new crossing points on Towyn Road already in place. The site, previously was occupied by the Pensarn Children’s Camp which was demolished during or prior to the 1970s. It was also home to a chalet development which was subsequently demolished, with the site now mostly undeveloped.
