Churngold Construction marks 40 years of progress, precision and people-first delivery

Celebrating four decades in business, Churngold Construction has earned its place as a trusted name in the UK construction sector. Since launching in 1985, the company has built a reputation on the core principles of professionalism, safety, and innovation, values that continue to shape its work today under the leadership of Managing Director Richard Martin.
With its headquarters in Bristol and regional offices in Cardiff, Exeter, and Crewe, Churngold Construction delivers expert civil engineering and groundworks services across a wide geography. Whether it’s infrastructure, housing, commercial or defence projects, the business is known for its technical expertise, proactive approach, and ability to deliver value without compromise.
Central to Churngold’s longevity is a collaborative way of working, supporting clients from the earliest planning stages through to handover. The company’s reputation for early-stage buildability advice, accurate cost forecasting, and dependable delivery has made it a preferred partner on projects ranging from £1 million to £60 million in value.
Richard Martin, who became Managing Director in 2022, brings more than two decades of industry experience and a deep understanding of both technical delivery and commercial leadership. Starting his career as a site engineer in 2004, Richard developed a sharp appreciation for the detail of groundworks and civil engineering before broadening his expertise with a post-graduate qualification in quantity surveying. His hands-on experience and commercial insight make him a respected voice in the industry, and a steady hand at the helm of Churngold.
Overseeing a thriving senior leadership team, Richard is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company along the M5 corridor from Birmingham to Plymouth and the M4 from Pembrokeshire to Reading. Under his guidance, Churngold has doubled down on investing in innovation, plant, and people, ensuring the company continues to meet the changing demands of modern construction.
“People are at the heart of everything we do,” says Richard. “From the teams on-site to the clients we support, our focus is always on building relationships that last. That starts with trust, delivering what we say we will, to the standard our clients expect, and is backed up by continual investment in our workforce and resources.”
This commitment to excellence extends to safety and training, which remain central to Churngold’s operation. The company invests heavily in professional development for its site teams, ensuring a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
As 2025 marks 40 years of business, Churngold’s eyes are firmly set on the future. The business is embracing the challenges of net-zero targets, increased regulation, and emerging technologies with energy and determination.
“We’ve got a lot to be proud of, but we’re not standing still,” says Richard. “Our role is to deliver projects that make a difference, safely, efficiently, and responsibly. As we look ahead, we’re focused on expanding our capabilities, bringing through the next generation of leaders, and staying ahead of industry change. We’re ready for the next 40 years.”
