A High Street development, which will provide a new shopping, working and lifestyle destination at a major new suburb of Newquay, is set to move forward. The Corstorphine & Wright-designed High Street at the centre of the Duchy’s Nansledan development received formal approval from the Duchy of Cornwall in recent months. Now, it will be going out to tender later this summer. The “transformative” project aims to enhance the local community and create significant employment opportunities, with its mix of retail, food and beverage (F&B), offices, leisure and community spaces.Market Street is strategically positioned at the centre of Nansledan, on the east side of Newquay and within easy reach of the popular North Cornwall coastline. The development will host a variety of facilities, including a new food store, food hall/market hall showcasing Cornwall’s finest producers, and a sheltered, but vibrant courtyard, with outdoor dining and a planned calendar of annual events. Also included will be a rich diversity of further food and drink venues, offices, including co-working hub, and leisure spaces.Ian Wilson, director at Corstorphine & Wright, said: “We are pleased to see the Market Street development move forward to the next stage. Our design aims to seamlessly blend traditional Cornish architectural elements with modern sustainable practices. By integrating locally sourced materials and renewable energy solutions, we are creating a scheme that not only honours local character but also paves the way for a sustainable future.”This development will serve as a vibrant community hub, providing residents and visitors with a dynamic mix of retail, dining, and communal spaces, adding to the success of Nansledan as a whole.”Construction is set to start at the beginning of 2025.Key project information: Client – Duchy of Cornwall Project Managers – PML Architect – Corstorphine & Wright QS – Gleeds Urban Designer – ADAM Architecture Civil Engineer – AWP Structural Engineer – Airey & Coles M&E Services – Hydrock Acoustic Engineer – Red Twin Building Control – Stroma Principle Designer – Bailey Partnership Development & Leasing Consultants – CCD Properties Ltd
