£1.8m ‘connected car’ project for Lightfoot

Exeter-based technology company Lightfoot has been awarded a £1.8m government-funded project to help reduce air pollution through ‘connected car’ technology.Funding has been awarded to a consortium led by Lightfoot, including The Institute of Advanced Motorists, Exeter-based cyber security specialists Securious, Revolve Technologies, and the University of Bath.The project will develop connected transportation technology in the short-term and the management of communications between autonomous and traditionally driven vehicles in the longer-term.It has been awarded by Innovate UK as part of the government’s commitment to invest in the Connected Car sector.Lightfoot will receive about £1m to develop its in-car device, designed to aid and reward smoother driving styles, cutting fuel bills and pollutants on the UK’s roads. Securious, a cyber security compliance company based in the Exeter Science Park, will use its sector- experience to find improved technology for connected car security.Mark Roberts, managing director of Lightfoot, said the grant was grant was a “huge endorsement” for the company’s technology.
