121 homes approved across two Dundee sites
Councillors in Dundee have approved plans for two developments that will provide 121 new homes.Plans for the Ballindean Road Housing Development by jmarchitectsA former industrial site on Ballindean Road in Douglas will host 43 houses and 24 flats, six fewer than initially intended during a public consultation last year to accommodate a SUDS pond to the north west corner of the site.The homes have been designed by jmarchitects and will be built by Cullross Ltd for Caledonia Housing Association.The former BOC Gases Ltd industrial site is bounded by Ballindean Place, Balmedie Drive, Ballindean Road and Douglas Road located in the East End of the city.Meanwhile, the second wing of B-listed Burnside Mill in Lochee is to be converted into 54 flats for social housing.The first wing of the Burnside Mill warehouse has already been transformed into flats but the remaining wing has lain unused for around 20 years. It was last used as a sports centre but has become increasingly run down in recent years and is now listed on the Buildings at Risk Register.The plans, showcased here in 2020 by developers AG Akermo and Gary Paterson Architect, will see the properties put up for social rent and operated by Hillcrest Homes.Approval was also given for the removal of a disused Victorian railway platform and embankment at the site.
