14-storey hotel proposed for prominent Leeds site
Plans have been revealed for a new 14-storey hotel, restaurant and conferencing facility at a prominent retail and leisure scheme in Leeds.Property developer Hammerson will present pre-application proposals for the development at Victoria Gate to Leeds City Council next week (29 August 2019).The company is hoping to build a new 14-storey hotel on the site of an existing car park.A total of 205 bedrooms would be created, together with almost 2,000 sq ft of conference space on the first floor, with associated meeting rooms.Restaurant space, an entrance lobby and bar lounge would be developed at ground floor and mezzanine level. A digital advertising screen is also proposed as part of the façade of the building.The pre-application plans will be discussed by the council’s City Plans Panel on 29 August, with members asked for their views on the hotel use, the scale ad design of the building, the public realm works and the proposed digital screen.Planning permission was granted for the Victoria Gate multi storey car park, including a temporary 51-space external surface car park on the site in 2015. The temporary surface car park was limited to five years of operation.
