143-home residential scheme greenlit despite concerns

Despite concerns from some residents regarding agricultural land loss, increased traffic, and strain on facilities, Chesterfield council planners have greenlit a residential scheme for 143 new homes in Mastin Moor, Derbyshire.Called Low Ridding, the development is part of a potentially larger four-phase housing project.Harron Homes proposal for 143 new homes, parking areas, secondary roads, and landscaping on Worksop Road’s southern end received outline planning permission.The council’s recent decision approved reserved matters related to housing and access roads, marking the project’s advancement.This phase marks the start of a possible four-phase development in Mastin Moor, following the council’s permission for up to 650 dwellings, facilities, services, offices, open space, and a community garden extension.The revised application will feature two-story properties with a mix of three, four, and five-bedroom homes.Harron Homes North Midlands, responsible for securing planning permission, confirmed the acquisition of 15 acres from the Devonshire Group, including plans for a Construction Skills Hub.Affordable housing, comprising seven two-bedroom and four-bedroom units, forms a part of the scheme.While objections highlighted traffic concerns, National Highways and Derbyshire County Council’s highways authority found the planned street design appropriate.No major objections were raised by environmental authorities.Andrew Priestley, land director (designate) for Harron Homes North Midlands, said: “Mastin Moor is the perfect location for commuters and families wanting a change of pace. We’re excited to make progress on Low Ridding, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon.”Infrastructure work is scheduled to commence in May, with the first homes expected to be completed by autumn, as per Harron Homes.
