Morgan Sindall is set to start work on a £14m secondary school expansion project in Birmingham later this month. The Rugby-headquartered listed company will carry out the work at Rockwood Academy which will create almost 450 additional places. The scheme is expected to complete at the end of summer 2020.Birmingham City Council appointed Morgan Sindall through the Constructing West Midlands framework earlier this year. The work will be funded through the council’s Capital Education programme. The additional teaching space will enable the school, based on Naseby Road, to expand its intake from four to seven form entry; or from 648 pupils to 1,050.Work will see an existing administration building demolished, to make way for a two-storey 2,200 sq ft extension. There will also be a significant amount of refurbishment to the existing school facility, with several areas reconfigured. The expansion will accommodate ten additional classrooms, a new library, additional science labs, a drama studio, extensive external landscaping and a new multi-use games facility.
