17-storey Salford tower plans given boost
A 17-storey tower, which would house 160 apartments and a gym, looks set to be approved by Salford city planning officers.Forshaw Land and Property Group Ltd is behind the plans earmarked for a former employment site off Derwent Street. The plot is currently vacant and secured by fencing following the demolition of the former building in 2011.The Bolton-based property development is seeking permission for the scheme, which also includes communal space and public realm improvements, from Salford City Council. Vehicle access into the site would be provided from Derwent Street and car parking for 14 cars will be available at surface level, the application said.Cycle parking for 112 cycles will be provided within the building and visitor cycle parking is proposed in the riverside link. The proposals include the upgrade of the public realm along the riverside link, providing for a new square and a widened stepped access down to the riverside walkway.Across the development the scheme would provide for 72 one-bedroom apartments, 80 two-bedroom apartments and eight three-bed apartments. The scheme has been updated during the course of the application.Three floors have been added to the height of the building, increasing the number of apartments within the development by 30. Car parking provision within the project has also increased from seven spaces to 14.Salford planners have now recommended the plans are approved subject to conditions. The council’s planning and transportation regulatory panel will meet next Thursday (3 March).
