17-storey Sheffield tower plans approved

Plans to develop a 17-storey building on a Sheffield city centre car park have been approved by Sheffield City Council’s Planning and Highways committee.Submitted by iQ Student Accommodation (iQSA) the development would comprise 116 en-suite flats, 66 en-suite studios and 75 non-en-suite rooms, making a total of 257 bedrooms. It would also have a dedicated gaming room, multiple study zones and communal laundry facilities.The £15m 17-storey tower would overlook Netherthorpe Road, with a six-storey element also proposed in response to the scale of the existing buildings in the area.A report to Sheffield City Council ahead of its planning committee’s meeting suggested that the proposed use of student accommodation in the area is “considered to be both acceptable in policy terms and sustainable”.iQSA was established in 2016 and is a joint venture between charitable foundation Wellcome Trust, investment banking giant Goldman Sachs and housing company Greystar.Greystar is a global leader in the provision of multi-family housing with 400,000 residences under management in 140 global markets.Across the UK, iQSA has 54 student accommodation schemes in 25 cities and operates five sites in Sheffield alone.
