20-storey Manchester hotel plans plotted
A 20-storey building housing a 154-bedroom hotel which would be operated by Motto by Hilton is being touted for the centre of Manchester.Applicant Ancoats Manchester Ltd has submitted an application to Manchester City Council for the development of the site on the corner of Laystall Street and Great Ancoats Street.The site will comprise the hotel, first floor bar and restaurant uses, gym and meeting spaces, access, servicing, landscaping and other works.Operator for the hotel would be Motto by Hilton, an urban, lifestyle hotel brand. Current Motto by Hilton hotels are located in New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Rotterdam.Currently, the application site is vacant and is being utilised as temporary contractor storage for redevelopment of the adjacent aparthotel. It is included within the East Village area of the HS2 Strategic Regeneration Framework.Ancoats Manchester Ltd, developer and applicant, is a commercial vehicle formed in 2021.The team that the applicant has engaged to develop the proposal is architect – SimpsonHaugh; planning consultant – Deloitte Real Estate; structural engineer – Shear Design; mechanical, electrical and environmental services – Elkom and fire engineer – CHPK.A design and access statement prepared by SimpsonHaugh on behalf of Ancoats Manchester Ltd added: “Located within the HS2 Manchester Piccadilly Strategic Regeneration Framework, the proposals aim to enhance connectivity with future adjacent developments.”The proposals take a leftover site within the regeneration area to provide a much-needed use that complements the proposed developments in the wider context.”
