200 apartments planned for steelworks site
A former Bristol steelworks could be redeveloped to provide more the 200 apartments if recently submitted plans are given the green light.Rollo Homes, via agent Aspect360 (SW), has lodged plans for the former Pring and St Hill site on Malago Road in Bedminister.The company is proposing to construct a new development of between eight and ten stories, comprising 217 apartments.The flats would be spread over two blocks with a mix of one- and two-bedroom properties. A total of 104 car parking spaces would also be provided.The former Pring and St Hill site gets its name from a steel fabrication business that occupied the land between 1821 and 2003. It has been vacant for a number of years.Proposals for 185-bed scheme and commercial space were previously approved in 2011, however this scheme did not prove viable due to the economic downturn the consent expired.The new plans aim to address policy requirements that have arisen, including the need for the scheme to be energy efficient and utilise renewable energy.Rollo Homes was recently granted planning permission for the redevelopment of part of a former glassworks site in Nailsea.
