220-bed development proposed for city centre site

A new mixed-use development of more than 220 student flats and commercial space could be built on a site in Sheffield city centre under new plans.Crosslane Group, supported by Urbana Town Planning and Cartwright Pickard, has submitted an application to Sheffield City Council for a development on Fitzwilliam Street.Planning permission is sought for the demolition of the existing industrial building on the site and construction of a new mixed-use building of up to 13 storeys.The proposed development would feature a total of 225 student bedrooms, with 201 studios and 12 two-bed apartments. Amenity areas and a rooftop terrace will also be provided.Two commercial units are also proposed for the ground floor fronting onto Fitzwilliam Street and Bowland Street.No car parking is proposed on site but secure cycle parking will be provided on the ground floor.Crosslane Group has previously developed 11 purpose-built student accommodation schemes across seven UK cities, representing 2,383 beds.Cartwright Pickard has worked on a trio of student development in Sheffield – Sellers Wheel, Gatecrasher and Alsop Fields – as well as the Albert Works scheme.
