£266m investment planned for Plymouth
A £266m investment programme has been set out to transform the look and feel of Plymouth city centre.Plymouth City Council’s cabinet is being asked to approve up to £27m for the scheme in the capital budget, its fund used to improve the city for its residents and visitors.A commitment of £55m is also included that would be used to fund on a range of transport and infrastructure projects, including £24.6m towards the Northern Corridor transport scheme.The budget also includes £41m to maintain and improve key city assets, including £20m on the city’s roads, and £21m for other council projects.A further £100m asset investment pot is also planned and will enable the council to invest in new land and property assets to generate an income.Plymouth City Council will also consider plans to set aside £5m towards preparations for the Mayflower 400 commemorations in 2020.Historic trails will be developed enabling visitors to follow in the footsteps of the Pilgrim Fathers. Other projects in the pipeline include the renovation of two Elizabethan houses in the Barbican and a new Mayflower monument.
