2,750-home plan for former golf course moves forward
Plans for a new village on the site of a former golf course between Harrogate and York have moved forward after formal planning documents were submitted. The proposal also includes a new 120-bedroom hotel which echoes previous designs for the land by a developer which collapsed owing almost £70m.Flaxby Park Ltd, which is owned by experienced developer Wynard Park Estates, has submitted a request for an Environmental Impact Assessment Screening for Flaxby Park Golf Club to Harrogate Borough Council.Detailed in the request are the emerging plans for the 440-acre site which is located between York and Harrogate. The developer is planning to create up to 2,750 dwellings for the new village which will also incorporate dedicated space for retailers, financial and professional services, restaurants and cafes, drinking establishments, and hot food takeaways in the village centre.Flaxby Park Ltd has also detailed that it plans to create a 120-bedroom hotel as well as primary schools, alongside health and leisure facilities for indoor sport and recreational use. There would also be car parking for 350 vehicles to serve a new potential railway station at Goldsborough.Professionals working on the scheme include GVA, Wardell Armstrong, Fore Consulting, Brooks Ecological and Ricardo Energy & Environment.Skelwith Leisure Ltd was previously the driving force behind the redevelopment of land at Flaxby Park Golf Club, and had earmarked the site for various schemes including a £100m country resort and latterly a new village of up to 2,500 homes. After the liquidation of Skelwith Leisure, claims totalling almost £70m were submitted by unsecured creditors, with off-plan buyers of rooms at the proposed luxury resort and HM Revenue & Customs among those hoping to recover money.A deal to acquire the land from liquidators at RSM Restructuring Advisory was agreed last year.
