300 homes planned for former MoD site
Plans have been submitted to build about 300 houses on land adjacent to the former Ministry of Defence (MoD) facility which is set to become the site of Aston Martin’s new South Wales factory.Edenstone Homes, via agent Geraint John Planning, has submitted an application for land off Cowbridge Road in St Athan, adjoining the existing MoD base. The developer is proposing to build about 300 homes with a mix of one to five-bedroom properties, together with public open space and car parking. The 26.9-acre site is included in Vale of Glamorgan Council’s emerging local development plan, allocated for 300 houses. It currently comprises two parcels of land in agricultural use.The allocation is said to “meet local needs and to support planned economic growth at the St Athan strategic opportunity area”.Edenstone said the scheme would contribute to the “provision of high-quality housing in the area, including affordable housing”.Aston Martin revealed plans earlier this year for a £200m manufacturing facility on the former MoD site, employing 750 staff, where its future sport utility vehicle (SUV) will be built. The manufacturer has now begun work on the factory and completed a deal to acquire the land last week.
