Plans to build a high-rise scheme featuring 375 homes on a key site that could help link Salford’s Chapel Street with Manchester city centre have been given the go-ahead.Salford City Council’s planning committee has approved an application by UK Land & Property to create two group of buildings straddling a new public square on a site bounded by Trinity Way and Chapel Street. It is envisaged that the development would include 375 homes and less than 10,000 sq ft of commercial and retail space. The OMI Architects-designed scheme is intended to open up an important pedestrian route linking Chapel Street to New Bailey and Spinningfields. The proposed development comprises four apartment blocks varying in height from 11 to 20 storeys. These would sit upon a podium of two-storey buildings which provide commercial and retail space at ground level while also creating raised courtyard gardens for the residents.Construction is due to start in Septembert 2017.The design team on the project also includes the Vinden Partnership (project management, cost consultancy), RoC Consulting (structural engineering), Crookes Walker Consulting (mechanical and electrical), and Design Fire Consultants (fire engineering).
