£4.2m veterinary hub plans revealed
Plans to develop a £4.2m veterinary hub at Aberystwyth University, backed by European funding, have been revealed.The university will lead the Vet Hub 1 project, which is backed with £3m from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government.As part of the project, a fully-equipped, high-specification laboratory and office spaces will be built.Researchers at the hub will work with industry to develop tests and vaccines to help reduce losses in the livestock industry and improve animal health. There will be particular focus on animal-borne diseases that could pass to humans.Aberystwyth University has also secured a further £650,000 investment from CIEL (Centre of Innovation Excellence in Livestock) for an animal sciences facility working alongside Vet Hub 1.
