42-storey tower tipped for approval
Plans for more than 400 apartments to be constructed in Salford’s Greengate area, in a scheme which would include a 42-storey tower, have been recommended for approval.Land bounded by Greengate and Trinity Way and Collier Street and intersected by Bond Street and Caygill Street, has been set aside for the proposed development which would include 444 flats. The development would also feature more than 7,000 sq ft of commercial floorspace across four separate units. The applicant for the development is Renaker Build Ltd.It forms part of a wider masterplan to demolish buildings on the site and redevelop it to potentially create more than 1,500 homes. Phase one is for the development of a 50-storey residential building, commercial floor-space, new public park, highways and public realm improvements and other associated works.Phase two, which the latest application concerns, and phase three, is for the development of two residential buildings up to 42 storeys in height, commercial floor space, new highways, a public square, public realm improvements and associated works.The phases form part of a hybrid planning application. Salford City Council’s planning committee will meet next Thursday (16 December) to discuss the proposals for phase two, which were lodged in September.The council’s planning officers have recommended the application be approved.
