£450m Coventry city centre regeneration thumbs up
Development partners, The Hill Group and Shearer Property Group, have got the green light for the first phase of the highly-anticipated £450m City Centre South regeneration project in Coventry.View of planned City Centre South scheme from View from Coventry market roofThe landmark housing-led proposals are set to radically transform the centre around Coventrt market, creating a pedestrian-friendly residential, shopping and leisure hub.Phase 1 includes 991 homes as well as 8,000 sqm of commercial space, all set within 17,000 sq m of public open space.Phase 2 will provide further commercial space and up to 584 homes.An archaeological survey is underway to identify any archaeological remains, including the position of the historic City Wall in Shelton Square and Bull Yard.Demolition is scheduled to start at the end of the summer, with the first homes expected to be completed in early 2027.Andy Street, the Mayor of the West Midlands and Chair of the West Midlands Combined Authority, said: “The go-ahead for the first phase of this exciting scheme is great news for Coventry.“It will transform a large but outdated part of the city into a vibrant new district for people to live, work and have fun.“It’s why the WMCA has agreed to invest more than £100m into the project.”
