£500 million university campus plans revealed
The University of Leicester has unveiled £500 million plans to transform its campus and improve facilities (October 13th).Education bosses say they are investing in the student experience with changes taking place over the next 10 years to create new teaching facilities, improved student accommodation and better public access.Among the plans is the creation of a space park next to Leicester Space Centre, bringing industry and academic research together.Education leaders are currently in talks with Leicester City Council which owns the land, to determine how it will take shape.Funding for the buildings and facilities will be split with £10million of university cash and £13million from The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP).Plans are currently being drawn up and construction should get underway in 2019 for a 2020/21 start.
