550-home housing proposals put forward

Proposals have been put forward for City of York Council to develop about 550 new homes over a five-year period.A report, due to go before the authority’s executive next week, proposes that new affordable housing in built on on council-owned sites. About 40 per cent of the new properties would be targeted to support those who currently struggle to get on the housing market, and will meet the needs of a wide range of residents, including key workers and first time buyers.A planning application for Lowfield Green will go before the planning committee in August. Burnholme and the former Askham Bar park-and-ride site will be developed next as part of the first phase of the programme. The council is also considering purchasing new build properties from developers in order to provide additional affordable housing.
