5th Studio wins major Stratford Station job
5th Studio has won a £300,000 contract to draw up a regeneration vision for Stratford Station in east LondonThe London and Cambridge-based firm defeated HawkinsBrown, Allies and Morrison, Weston Williamson and Farrells to win the commission, which is backed by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).5th Studio will now lead a multidisciplinary design and planning team on the creation of an urban design framework to rethink spaces surrounding the multi-level interchange, one of the busiest train stations in the capital and in the UK.The project – supported by Network Rail, Newham Council and Transport for London – will identify a ‘long-term future’ for the area bordering Stratford town centre and Westfield Stratford City which serves as the gateway to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.The study will look at ways to improve the interchange station and how it links to the nearby Stratford International Station. It will examine boosting connectivity between the Olympic Park and Stratford town centre, and will also explore initiatives to make the station more accessible and passenger-friendly.The contract was awarded following a competitive tender via the GLA’s ADUP II Framework.Alongside 5th Studio, the winning team also includes Expedition Engineering, Momentum Transport, Turner & Townsend and Giorgia Sharpe with Thomas Matthews.
