£6.6m investment to cut congestion on A40 London Road, High Wycombe
One of the busiest roads in High Wycombe is set to benefit from a multi-million pound improvement scheme to improve journey times, cut congestion and improve air quality (September 4th).The stretch of the A40 London Road from Abbey Way to the M40 junction at Loudwater has long been difficult for both motorists and for public transport, especially at peak times. But now, thanks to a successful bid by Buckinghamshire County Council to the Department for Transport’s National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF), major improvements are about to start. The £6.6m investment will include improvements to junctions and pedestrian crossings, CCTV and state-of-the-art technology to help traffic flow better, improvements to bus stops and bus lanes and better electronic signage. The NPIF funding totals £4.13m with the additional £2.5m coming from local transport funding. London Road was one of 76 schemes nationally to benefit from the NPIF fund announced by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling last October.
