£60m student village proposals approved
Proposals for a 2,000-bed student accommodation project in Cornwall have been approved, despite going before the council’s planning committee with a recommendation for refusal.The application by Ocean Reach for the development on agricultural land near Falmouth University was approved by Cornwall’s Strategic Planning Committee by 12 votes to two yesterday (15 February 2018).According to CAD Architects, the scheme will “provide significant employment opportunities and represents a circa £60m capital investment in the area”.As well as the 2,000 beds, the development will also include a retail parade, sports and leisure facilities, a doctors surgery and a day nursery, as well as a 474 space park and ride facility and 323 parking spaces for students.
