£750m Castleford scheme to provide major boost to West Yorkshire
A £750m redevelopment of a prominent site in Castleford could provide a “major boost to the West Yorkshire economy”.Wakefield Council has given the green light to a huge residential and leisure development on a site that includes the former Nestle factory and the Hicksons & Welch chemical site.The proposal is for a residential-led mixed-use development comprising up to 1,400 new homes, extra care provision and a new local centre.More than 3,000 sq ft of space is incorporated for retail usage and up to 7,000 sq ft of space for professional and services uses. The development would also provide more than 10,000 sq ft of health and crèche facilities and 15,000 sq ft of extra care provision. Provision for a 21,500 sq ft hotel is also included.
