Plans to demolish an existing building to make way for new affordable apartments in Cardiff is set to receive the green light.Cadwyn Housing Association is seeking the go-ahead to demolish Walters Building on Clarence Road to build a part four and part five-storey residential apartment block. The scheme includes 35, one and two-bed properties, amended from an original proposal that sought approval for 49 units in a nine-storey block.Walters Building is a disused office building surrounded by Century Wharf apartments to the north and east, the A4119 to the south, and a small area of landscaping and a sub-station to the east.A report for Cardiff Council – whose planning committee meets on 19 August – recommended that the proposals be approved. It said: “The proposal makes efficient use of brownfield land, will have no detrimental impact on the amenities of neighbouring residents and will provide an acceptable standard of accommodation for future residents of the development.”
