Apartment scheme and car park set for green light

Plans for a major apartment scheme in Bedminster and an adjacent multi-storey car park have been recommended for approval.In revised plans, property developer Dandara is seeking permission for the demolition of existing buildings on land to the east of Little Paradise and to the west of Stafford Street,A series of interconnected blocks of flats are proposed for the cleared site, ranging in height from four to 16 storeys and a separate northern block of three and four-storeys.The main tower would contain 295 build-to-rent apartments with communal facilities such as a concierge, residents’ lounge, gym and cycle workshop.A further 21 apartments are proposed as affordable housing in the northern block.Despite opposition to the scheme, including from Historic England and the council’s City Design Group, the proposal has been recommended for approval, as has a separate application by Dandara and Bristol City Council for an adjacent multi-storey car park on the site of the existing Little Paradise public car park facility.According to a report to be scrutinised next week by Bristol councillors, the site is in a sustainable location, re-uses previously developed land, and provides 21 affordable housing dwellings, while the transport links and infrastructure relating to the scheme are considered acceptable.Overall, the application is considered to be in accordance with the development plan and is recommended for approval subject to conditions and obligations.
