Apartments conversion proposed for former swimming baths

A grade II-listed former swimming baths in South Yorkshire could be redeveloped into apartments if newly lodged plans get the go-ahead.Riverside Housing, supported by Arcus Consulting, has submitted planning and listed building applications to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council for the conversion of Holden House.Holden House was built in 1872 as a public swimming baths and caretakers accommodation. It was awarded grade II-listed status in 1986.The building has previously been converted into a hostel providing accommodation for the homeless, but this has now closed.Planning permission is now sought for the conversion of the building to create 17 one- and two-bedroom apartments. A small parking area would also be created.A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said it was intended to “retain where possible the existing character of the property”, with minimal external alterations proposed.
