Apartments, hotel and marketplace plans for Old Town Hall
Sheffield’s Old Town Hall could be redeveloped to provide apartments, hotel rooms and a ‘souk’ marketplace under new plans.Urbana Town Planning, on behalf of the building’s owner Aestrom OTH, has submitted full-planning and listed-building applications to Sheffield City Council for the refurbishment and restoration of the building.The plans include the creation of 12 ‘pod’ hotel rooms in the rear cell block of the former court building and 12 serviced apartments in the existing rooms and courts of the original Old Town Hall building and the 20th century extensions.Almost 10,000 sq ft of flexible commercial space would be created to form a ‘souk’ marketplace areas at basement/lower ground floor levels. Back-of-house space to house reception, office, storage, laundry and cycle and refuse storage would also be provided.
