A vacant building in Cardiff looks set to be converted into apartments after plans were approved.Contractor Berriman Developments is behind the scheme which proposes 18 apartments at 56 Wern Goch West in the Llanedeyrn suburb.Currently, the site is a single-storey building which was previously a retail unit.Proposed is the redevelopment of the site to accommodate the introduction of 15, one-bedroom and three studio apartments, split over four storeys.Following an initial consultation, 19 letters of representation were received from nearby occupiers, with concerns including overdevelopment, privacy and increased traffic. However, an officer’s report, said: “Having regard to the above and notwithstanding the objections raised, it is clear that the development will make an important contribution to the overall housing supply within Llanedeyrn, Splott, on brownfield land providing much needed accommodation and reducing the need to develop on greenfield sites.”Cardiff Council has granted permission for the development under delegated powers, subject to a Section 106 Agreement.
