Approval for 300-home bid at historic pit village

About 300 homes are set to be constructed in Nottinghamshire after plans for a former pit village built in 1895 were approved.The project, which includes employment land, retail space, a leisure facility and medical centre, has been earmarked for a site south of Creswell Model Village.Creswell Colliery ceased works in 1991 and since then part of the site had been used for a number of years as an industrial estate but the site has now been cleared and is vacant.The 36.5-acre site is mostly brownfield land and contains two deep mine shafts.The medical centre has been earmarked for the former Methodist chapel which already has permission to be demolished.The village was built by the Bolsover Colliery Company and provided accommodation for its workers.Bolsover District Council’s planning committee made a final decision on the application, which was submitted by The Welbeck Estate Company, at a meeting on Wednesday 19 December.
