Plans to redevelop the Rylands Building – which is currently home to Debenhams – in a £68.5m project have been backed.Proposed for the site is a four-storey rooftop extension and the repurposing of much of the space. This would create grade A office space geared towards the tech, media and telecom sectors, as well as retail and leisure facilities. It is believed the development would “provide employment in a range of occupations relevant to young graduates and entry level employment to support inclusive growth objectives”.A local labour agreement for the construction and operational phases would also secure opportunities exclusively for Manchester residents. The application went before Manchester City Council yesterday (21 January) and was voted through.
