Approval for Nailsea High Street plans
Planning consent has been granted for the redevelopment of part of Nailsea High Street, designed by the architects’ practice behind the grade-I listed visitors’ centre at Clevedon Pier.O’Leary Goss’ plans include nine three-bed and one four-bed family homes plus a commercial unit, near the 18th century Royal Oak pub. The project will retain the stone walls of an original glassworks building, formerly used as a garage premises.The site forms part of the 19th century Nailsea Glassworks, dating back to when the town was the fourth largest UK glass producer, and housed French kilns and gas-fired furnaces. It is a scheduled ancient monument which is partly converted to a public park.The £1.3m project was given the go ahead by North Somerset Council.Rollo Homes, the developer behind the scheme, said work is set to start early in 2017 and be completed in about 12 months.O’Leary Goss is also behind plans to regenerate an abandoned garden centre in Tickenham with a £7m development providing 32 two-and three-bed lifetime homes, flexible office space, small park, water-meadow and woodland play area.
