Approval given to new Home Bargains store

Proposals for the construction of a new job-creating Home Bargains store on the site of a former bus station in Ashington have been approved.TJ Morris lodged plans with Northumberland County Council for the retail unit on the now vacant site of the former Ashington Bus Station on Lintonville Terrace.The site is part of the masterplan redevelopment of the Northeast Quarter of Ashington.The site is adjacent to the leisure centre and library facility and is one of remaining sites within the overall masterplan redevelopment area, which has been brought forward Advance Northumberland.Providing approximately 20,000 sq ft of new retail space, the new Home Bargains store also features an 87-space car park, including five disabled spaces and two electric vehicle charging points.It is expected that the store will create 70 jobs once completed, as well roles during its construction phase.The scheme has now been approved, subject to conditions.
