Approval lined up for former quarry housing plans
Proposals for a major housing development on a site extending across a former mining area in Telford have been recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting next week.Persimmon Homes is seeking the go-ahead to build 186 properties on land at Hadley Road.Measuring approximately 15.8 acres, the application site is located within the former Hadley Quarry and has been largely cleared. To the east is the remaining active quarry in use as part of Blockleys Brickworks.Plans comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses along with a number of two-bedroom bungalows. It is intended that 25 per cent of the scheme be allocated as affordable.A statement filed on behalf of the applicant with Telford and Wrekin Council – whose planning committee meets on 31 August – said: The proposed development achieves the full potential of the creation of a sustainable development, and continues to reflect the true spirt of the government guidelines under the NPPF, maintaining an important sense of place where people would like to live through quality of the design and layout, which we have aimed to provide.”A report for the committee added: “The scale and layout of the scheme has taken into consideration the main constraints of the site and will make positive use of what is a previously developed site.”
