Approval nears for golf course redevelopment
Plans to redevelop a golf course into a huge residential development – which would support more than 350 jobs – look set to be approved.MHE Investments is behind the application, which concerns 64 acres of land across Brackley Golf Club in Little Hulton. The site operated as such from 1991, with the running of the facility funded by MHE since 2007. However, in 2016 it closed for financial viability reasons.Since 2007, the company carried out wide ranging advertisement marketing campaigns in order to increase membership. However, there was very limited take-up.Due to lack of demand and despite substantial investment, the course was deemed not financially viable to continue and was therefore closed in March 2016.Proposed is the construction of up to 690 homes on the site, which would comprise 590 houses and 100 apartments. This would take place over a six-year period and, once complete, be home to about 1,670 residents. If approved, the project would support up to 310 temporary construction workers and a further 50 jobs in Salford as a result of new expenditure. The homes would also contribute to meeting the housing need in the borough. The application is outline in nature, meaning some of the details are held back.Salford City Council’s planning committee has been recommended to approve the application on 7 March 2019.
