Approval nears for mixed-use scheme
Plans to build a temporary mixed-use scheme on the site of the former Odeon cinema in Newcastle look set to be approved.Danielli Holdings initially unveiled the Stack scheme in October 2017 and believes it would have a “hugely positive impact” on the regeneration of Pilgrim Street, as well as tourism and culture in the city.The application lodged with Newcastle City Council in November proposes the installation of 50 shipping containers over two storeys on the land, which would house restaurants, cafés, bars and shops.It would also have a pop-up tipi in the winter months and an enchanted garden during the summer.Danielli is applying for temporary planning permission for a four-year period from 1 January 2018 to 31 May 2022.
