Approval nears for Northshore Hotel
Plans for the latest phase of works at Teesside’s Northshore development, which include building a seven-storey hotel and restaurant, look set to be given the green light.Northshore is fast-becoming an integrated quarter of Stockton with the competed scheme set to comprise new offices, homes, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and leisure facilities.Stockton Borough Council is this week set to decide on the newest aspect of the masterplan; a 128-bedroom hotel. The application proposes demolishing the existing Kwik-Fit building on Bishop Street and building the seven-storey venue – dubbed the Northshore Hotel – in its place. The site’s ground floor would comprise work space, a restaurant, breakfast area, bar and kitchen, with its eastern elevation fully glazed to promote views towards the Infinity Bridge. It would sit alongside a 67-space car park, with the entire site covering 62,100 sq ft. Outline plans for the application have already been approved, with these proposals covering the reserved matters.A report to planners at Stockton Borough Council states that the hotel would provide both economic and social benefits, and lacks any adverse impacts that would “significantly or demonstrably outweigh the benefits when assessed against the policies in the framework taken as a whole”.The meeting will take place on 12 April 2017.To date, a number of developments have been progressed at Northshore including two phases of the Vivo housing scheme, the 35,000 sq ft Thirteen office building and the 36,000 sq ft Fusion Hive Innovation Centre.
