Approval nears for Queen Alexandra Hospital emergency department
Plans to build a new emergency department at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth look set to secure approval.Outline approval for the project was granted in July 2021, with the detailed reserved matters application submitted in January 2022.Lined up is a four-storey development across 130,125 sq ft of space.Level A would comprise 216 car parking spaces, with Level B being home to the main emergency department accommodation.Level C would provide staff changing rooms, seminar areas, training and office space, welfare facilities, cleaning rooms and large plant rooms. An external staff terrace will also be provided on the north side of the building.Finally, Level D would comprise the roof level, with the roof being used to accommodate PV provision.The plans are supported by £58m of national funding.Approval has been recommended.
