Approval nears for Salford tower

Plans to build a 23-storey tower as part of a wider Salford development look set to go the go-ahead.The green light has already been granted for the outline masterplan, which will comprise up to 843 homes and commercial units in a mixed-use development, including a building of up to 33 storeys.A reserved matters application for Plot C1 was submitted by DPP Planning earlier this year on behalf of English Cities Fund, which proposes a 23-storey tower on land bounded by Trinity Way, Irwell Street and River Irwell, alongside a six-storey podium. The latter would make up part of Plot C2.The tower would comprise 211 apartments, making up part of the 392 proposed for the entirety of Zone C. Ground floor uses would include the main entrance, lobby with front desk and office facilities for the concierge. There is also an opportunity for a flexible commercial unit.Salford City Council’s planning committee – which will meet on 3 October – has been recommended to approve the application.
