Approval recommended for £15m student scheme

Proposals for a £15m, 18-storey student accommodation scheme in Leeds city centre that could provide almost 100 flats are set to get the go-ahead from the council later this week (12 July).Q Property Ltd submitted an application to Leeds City Council in April for a part 11-, part 18-storey student housing scheme on a site adjacent to Q One on Wade Lane.The development would comprise 98 studio flats and associated communal facilities for students, including a lounge, reception area, breakfast room and study rooms.The proposals also include an upgrade a public right of way adjacent the site to improve the link between the First Direct Arena to the north with the New Briggate Area to the south. It is hoped that the building will become a gateway in the north of the city centre in close proximity to the main university campusesThe scheme has been designed by Box Architects and Indigo Planning is advising the applicant.The development will go before the Council’s City Plans Panel on 12 July. A report prepared or the meeting recommend that a decision to grant planning permission is delegated to the chief planning officer, subject to completion of a legal agreement.
