Approval recommended for 260-home development

Plans to build almost 260 new homes on a greenfield site in Wakefield are recommended for approval when they go before the council’s planning committee next week (15 March 2018).Keepmoat Homes submitted plans to Wakefield Council in September 2017 for 19.4-acre site off Milton Road in Snapethorpe.The site is a currently-undeveloped plot of greenfield land, the majority of which is allocated for housing in the council’s local plan. It also includes part of Snapethorpe Primary School’s playing field.Keepmoat Homes acquired the land from the council in September.It is proposing to build a total of 258 houses, with 181 for the open market and 77 as affordable housing. A mix of detached, semi-detached and short-row terraced properties, with between two and four bedrooms, are planned.The application will go before Wakefield Council’s planning committee on 15 March 2018. A report from the planning officer recommends that approval is granted subject to conditions, including the signing of a Section 106 agreement to secure financial contribution towards transport, public footpaths and sustainable travel.The recommendation has been made despite 65 objections, with concerns including the impact of the development on the road network and the effect on existing properties in the area.
