Approval recommended for landmark 27-storey tower

Proposals for a landmark 27-storey tower comprising 372 apartments on a site in Sheffield city centre are recommended for approval at a council meeting next week (6 August 2019).A planning application was submitted to Sheffield City Council on behalf of Devonshire Green (Broomgrove Road) Ltd, part of Sheffield-based City Estates, in October 2019 for a site currently used as a car park, off the Hanover Way inner ring road and Milton Street, near Moorfoot.Planning permission is sought for the construction of the three blocks of seven storeys, ten storeys, and a split between 18 and 27 storeys. These have been designed to create a new landmark at one of the main entrances to the city centre while respecting the character of nearby listed buildings including Beehive Works and Eye Witness Works.The development would comprise a mix of one-, two- and three-bed apartments, live/work units, commercial units, a shop and landscaped courtyards.Residents’ facilities would include a roof garden, café, cinema, gym and function room. A basement car park would provide 146 spaces along with 210 cycle parking spaces.The application will go before the council’s planning and highways committee on 6 August and a planning officer’s report prepared or the meeting recommends that consent is granted, subject to conditions.City Estates is working with DLP Planning and architects’ practice Leach Rhodes Walker on the scheme.The developer was also behind the West One development of flats, leisure and offices in Sheffield’s Devonshire Quarter.
