Plans for a trio of retail units on the site of a former South Yorkshire colliery look set to get the go-ahead from councillors.Lidl, supported by Walsingham Planning, submitted an application last year for development adjacent to its existing foodstore at Torne Park. The application site is at the northern end of the former Rossington Colliery.Planning permission is sought for the construction of a retail parade with a gross external area of 6,500 sq ft. A car park with spaces for about 40 vehicles would also be created.Three units would be created measuring 2,350 sq ft, 2,500 sq ft and 1,250 sq ft. these would be suitable for a range of uses, including retail, food and drink, and leisure.The application will be considered by Doncaster Council’s planning committee on 2 April. It is recommended for approval, subject to referral to the National Planning Casework Unit to determine whether the secretary of state requires it to be called in.
