Approval sought for Northumberland residential scheme
An application to build 60 homes next to Alnmouth railway station has been submitted. The plans also include a new car park and bus station for rail passengers.Developer Northumberland Estates is responsible for the application, which has been proposed for a 16-acre greenfield site to the east of the station.The application, submitted to Northumberland County Council, comprises 60 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, 20 per cent of which will be affordable homes.The development also seeks to improve local transport links with the inclusion of an 80-bay car park and bus terminus serving Alnmouth station.A design and access statement prepared by architects Pod Newcastle calls for a development which “respects the local vernacular and village” by using materials and architectural features present in Alnmouth and nearby Lesbury.Northumberland Estates is behind several large developments in the county, including a retail park Alnwick, which commences construction this month.
