Approval tipped for Longbridge apartment scheme
The proposed creation of more than 200 apartments, which represent a further phase of development in St Modwen’s Longbridge regeneration project, have been recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting next week.St Modwen Homes Ltd has brought forward plans to develop land off Dalmuir Road. The application site comprises part of the former North Works of the MG Rover site. It has been cleared of any buildings associated with its former use.In August, St Modwen secured planning permission to transform the MG Works with new employment space and almost 700 homes, with the project expected to create more than 1,300 jobs.Approval is now sought for the erection of three apartment buildings comprising 205 units, with a mix of one- and two-bedroom properties.A statement filed on behalf of the applicant with Birmingham City Council – whose planning committee meets on 1 December – said: “The proposals for this site are a positive step in the further regeneration of the Longbridge site and will play an important role in delivering much needed housing.”The proposals are highly sustainable, making positive use of a previously developed site in a highly accessible location close to public transport links, services, facilities and jobs.”A report for the committee added: “The proposed development of the application site for residential purposes is considered acceptable in principle and would make a meaningful contribution towards the council’s 5YHLS and affordable housing.”
