An application proposing the construction of hundreds of homes, along with about 4.9 acres of care home provision, has been recommended for approval despite receiving a significant number of objections.Coventry City Council and the Coventry Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd has brought forward outline plans to build up to 345 properties on land adjacent to Browns Lane, Allesley.The site is currently used for agricultural purposes and is leased to tenant farmers. It was previously reserved for the expansion of JLR.The dwellings will be mainly two storeys with some bungalows to the western corner and some three storey units adjacent to a proposed care home.It is intended that 25 per cent of the scheme be allocated as affordable housing.After being advertised, the application returned 73 letters of objection were received, citing issues such as the loss of green belt land, the impact on infrastructure and traffic concerns.A paper petition against the proposal with 252 signatures has been received, as well as an e-petition with 616.A statement filed on behalf of the applicants said: “The principle of residential development of the site has previously been established through the local plan examination process, and as such the application proposals are considered to be acceptable in principle.”The site is considered suitable for a care home provision and will meet an identified need for older persons accommodation.”The council’s planning committee will review the proposals on 31 August.A report for the committee said: “It is not considered that there are any adverse impacts of granting planning permission that would significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits of the development when assessed against the policies of the NPPF taken as a whole.”
